Belkyra is an injectable fat dissolving treatment that reduces sub-mental (under the chin) fat. This procedure can eliminate a double chin without surgery and can improve definition of the jawline.  

Belkyra is comprised of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the human body. When injected into the treatment area it destroys membranes of local fat cells, thereby releasing the fat inside. This fat is then naturally eliminated from the body.

HOW DOES IT WORK? 

The active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that

aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin,

BELKYRA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once

destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected.

 

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE BELKYRA TO WORK? 

Following the injection of Belkyra into the treatment area it takes between 2- 4 weeks for the fat cells to dissolve and for the effects of treatment to become visible.

HOW LONG IS THE DOWNTIME WITH BELKYRA?

Downtime following Belkyra injections is minimal. Most clients return to work and resume normal daily activity immediately after treatment. It is advised that strenuous exercise for a few days after treatment as this can increase bruising and exacerbate localised swelling.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF BELKYRA?

Side effects following Belkyra treatment are relatively minor and can be easily managed. The most common side effect is swelling near the injection site which can last for a few days following treatment. Other potential side effects may include; bruising, itchiness, redness, and mild discomfort. Very occasionally clients can experience some tenderness surrounding the injection site which for some individuals can persist up to two months post treatment.

WHO IS NOT SUITABLE FOR BELKYRA?

Belkyra treatment is contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women and clients who have severe liver or heart problems.

 

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BELKYRA?

The best candidates are men and women who bothered (unhappy, self conscious, embarrassed) by fat under the chin.

1. You feel that the condition makes you feel older or heavier than you actually are.
2. You don’t want to undergo surgery.
3. You eat well and exercise, however the submental fullness does not go away.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Your clinician will thoroughly assess you to determine your tailored requirements. The number of sessions will range from 1-6 sessions, spaced 1 month apart.
